Search 'AI training Ireland' and you'll get universities, Skillnet networks and course aggregators offering multi-week programmes. Useful if one person wants a qualification. Almost useless if you have eight staff who need to stop retyping the same emails by next Monday. This guide covers the second situation: what team AI training costs, what drives that cost, and where Irish funding may help.

Why there's no single price

Training isn't a product with a shelf price, because two sessions with the same title can be wildly different amounts of work. A four-hour session for six people using nothing but Gmail is not the same job as two full days for a 30-person practice with client confidentiality rules and three separate departments. Anyone quoting you a fixed figure before asking about your team is quoting an average, and averages are expensive.

What actually drives the cost

• Team size — one room of 8 versus four sessions split by department.
• Length — a half day of fundamentals versus a full day with hands-on build time.
• Tailoring — generic examples are cheap; building prompts around your real documents and workflows takes prep.
• On-site or remote — travel and room logistics versus Zoom.
• Follow-up — one-off session, or a review session a month later once habits have formed.
• Compliance depth — regulated sectors need more time on data handling and internal policy.

The cheapest training is the training people use

The most common waste isn't overpaying for a session. It's paying for a session nobody applies. Teams sit through a generic AI overview, nod along, and go straight back to the old way on Monday because nothing in the day touched their actual job.

Two things prevent that. First, use your own material: real emails, real documents, real spreadsheets, real client scenarios. Second, leave with artefacts — a saved prompt library, document templates and a one-page internal AI policy — not slides.

Skillnet Ireland funds industry-led training networks, where member companies access subsidised programmes through their sector's network. Local Enterprise Offices also run training and management development supports for small businesses in their county.

Two honest caveats. Eligibility depends on your sector, company size and the specific network or programme — it isn't automatic, and it isn't decided by your trainer. And funded routes often mean choosing from that network's catalogue rather than a bespoke session built around your systems. Check with your Skillnet network or your Local Enterprise Office before assuming a particular session is covered.

How to scope a session properly

• Will you use our documents and tools, or your own examples?
• What do we physically keep afterwards?
• How do you handle client confidentiality and GDPR in the session?
• Are you selling us tools, or training us on what we already own?
• What happens if the team doesn't apply it?

Training first, automation second

A trained team spots its own automation candidates. After a workshop, people can tell you exactly which repetitive jobs shouldn't need a human at all — form-to-spreadsheet handoffs, follow-up chasers, document filing. That's a far better brief for an automation project than a guess made beforehand, and it stops you paying to automate a process you were about to change anyway.
